My 10 Important Items

1. Accordion
I chose to include my accordion because it is an unconquered area of my life (not there are not many already). I have only recently started playing (in October) and am teaching myself. It is important to me because it represents being fancy-free.

2. Ipod
I chose my iPod as one of my most important items because if I am listening to my iPod that means that I am completely alone because I would not listen to my iPod if I was with anyone else. Being alone can be calming for me so my iPod represents my ability to stop and think by myself more than it does the music. The time that is set-aside for me to stop and think is a welcome break from the way you have to think when you are around a bunch of people.

3. Can of Yeast
A Can of Yeast is one of my important items because of what it represents. A goal of mine is to be as self-sustaining as possible. This means being able to make yourself the necessities or even things that are not necessary but are basic, like bread. The can of yeast represents the fact that I am on this road.

4. Coloured Pencils
I have been using coloured pencils since as long as I can remember. They were one of my first media and the longest lasting in my world. One pack of coloured pencils can last you a long while and you can make unlimited amounts of things. Ideally, the pack that would represent me would be a Laurentien pack however now I know that they are the cheap waxy coloured pencils and not the ones you should use for fine arts.

5. Multivitamin
Taking a multivitamin makes me feel good mentally, and so it made it onto my list of top 10 things. Taking multivitamins cures me of my fears. Feeling weird? Take a multivitamin, maybe you are lacking in something? It also represents the basic struggle in my life. I have a pack of multivitamins that are "preservative and artificial flavouring free" so, they taste and smell like cat food. When I found out how bad they smell I was surprised but because of what type of pills they were, I figured it was all right. Then I realized that it still could be a rotten pack and I just assumed the obvious sign was because of something else.

6. Notepad/Cellphone
I do not really believe in cellphones, or I do not want to believe in them. Therefore, instead of getting a cellphone I bought a MEAD notepad and I write down numbers and important things and pictures and booklists and anything I want to remember.

7. Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
At the risk of sounding overly pretentious I added this book into my list. I am not even finished the book (1 Chapter left) and I can already tell that it is going to be one of my favourite books that I have ever read, or one of the most important books to me. As I am reading it I can already find many parallels to my life and it is beginning to act as a guide to life in a way.

8. Tide to Go
Tide to Go represents the idea that things are not unchangeable. When you spill red wine and then drop a bowl of cranberries on your lap you think it is the end of the world but you have the choice to change it! You just have to carry a Tide to Go in your coat pocket and apply it! It usually will work. Tide to Go represents the ability to create your own future in many ways.

9. St. Michael Statue
I am not a very religious person but my figure of St. Michael means a lot to me. It is comforting to me to have it standing up at me or facing me when I sleep. St. Michael means more to me than the fact that it is my name. In fact, the reason I included it in this list really has nothing to do with that fact at all. The reason I decided to include it is that it represents my family. On my father's side, the town he was born in is built up into a mountain and the only reason that people decided to inhabit that area is because of sightings of St. Michael the Archangel. From there a Church was built and then a city. What the statue represents to me is family tradition and family in general. It is also a souvenir from a trip to that city so it is like an artifact of who I am or where I came from.

10. Hair cutting Scissors
Like the bread, Hair cutting Scissors is a sign of sustainability. I do have some crazy hair. However, I cut it myself. I would hope to say that even if the style is crazy it is well executed. As I have said before, I would like to slowly start being able to do for myself basic tasks and have abilities that add to my resume of fun tasks as well as adding a thrifty aspect to my life.
